Automated EV Charging

As mentioned with home automation the same can be done with EV charging. Based on available inputs such as battery voltage and PV power we can adjust charge rates on EVs. Other examples of inputs can be a priority level, how badly do we need the EV charged. If the priority is low then we can use only excess solar. If the priority is medium, then lets charge the EV at full power until the home batteries get to a predetermined percentage then throttle it down to excess solar. If the priority is high however, then the algorithm will charge the EV at full power no matter what. At high priority you may want to use the entire capacity of your house batteries then which you would purchase power from the grid or in an off-grid environment purchase power from a generator so-to-speak. With automated EV charging we strive to solve a few dilemas. One goal is to tax your home batteries as least as possible, use the power when available. The second benefit of this is to sell less power to the grid during time of solar generation. The final benefit it to purchase the least amount of power from the grid, or worse have to run power generation in an off-grid environment.
